Fieldwork

A central part the ethnomusicological work includes fieldwork. During my thesis on Faroese music, fieldwork playd a central role.

Since then I have conducted fieldwork based research in Iceland, Turkey, Morocco and Pakistan, and among youngsters with immigrant background in Denmark.

Gamelan

Gong ensembles, gamelan, are found in especially the Indonesian area. During my study in Holland I had the pleasure of playing several kinds of gamelan.

Het Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam was central for my experiences with the Javanese court gamelan for four years.

For two years I played the Balinese Gamelan Gong Kebyar in the ensemble 'Tirta'. Gamelan Gong Kebyar is a large ensemble known for accompagnying dance and puppet performances. With this ensemble I participated in the production of a modern opera about the story 'Saidjah' by Multatulis. It was composed by Boudewijn Tarenskeen in 1987.
